Museu Militar
Museum
This building by the riverside is home to more than 500 years of military history, displayed throughout 33 exposition rooms. As you explore the exhibits you will find arsenal and military equipment as well as sculptures and paintings depicting important moments in Portugal’s past.
It is the largest military museum in Portugal and it is worth a visit so that you can take a glimpse back into Lisbon’s history. The artefacts were mostly collected at the end of the 19th century by Joaquim Vitorino Ribeiro, who was a Portuguese painter.
You’ll see a varied array of military items and historical artefacts, from blades of flint to rifles to spears. In the courtyard you will find beautifully painted tiles that tell the story of Portugal up to the First World War.
