Jardim Botânico da Ajuda
Green Space
A sprawling green space surrounding Ajuda Palace, this peaceful retreat is the oldest botanical garden in Portugal.
The Jardim Botânico da Ajuda features a fragrant collection of plants from Portugal’s former colonies all over the world. Strolling through this garden will also reward you with stunning views of the Tagus River, the 25 de Abril Bridge and the Belem district.
The garden was inspired by Italian architecture and features several beautiful sculptures, adding an air of sophistication to the tropical-inspired greenery.
Some of the highlights of the gardens include a dragon tree that is more than 400 years old, a central fountain that has 40 waterspouts carved in the likeness of fish, sea horses and serpents and a greenhouse filled with lush blooming orchids.
