Estação do Rossio
Monument & Heritage
Located in Rossio Square, this railway station was designed by the Portuguese architect Jose Luis Monteiro between 1886 and 1887. It is thought to be one of the most important structures from the 19th century in Portugal.
The elegant Neo-Manueline façade is covered in intricately carved details and the horseshoe shaped arches make it immediately recognisable. It looks more like a religious building than a train station from the outside, with many decorative figures and a roof embellished with small turrets.
During the day, Rossio Railway Station has a service every 20 minutes, being only 30 minutes from the historical center of the nearby town of Sintra.
