Praça do Príncipe Real

Place of Interest

The tranquil gardens of Praça do Príncipe Real are a beautiful place to take a break on a sunny afternoon. This romantic square, built in the mid-19th century, is shaded by some exotic trees, especially an enormous cedar over 20 meters in diameter, which resembles a giant umbrella and is one of the trees classified as being of Interest Public at this location.

All around the square you will find antique stores, markets and designer shops waiting to be explored. On Saturdays the weekly market for organic products is held here where it is possible to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from local producers.

Underneath it all is a water reservoir, from the 19th century, that is part of the city’s Water Museum, open for visits on Saturdays.
