Miradouro Portas do Sol

Perched high on a steep and windy climb, this lookout point offers a spectacular view of all of Lisbon. Its name means “Gateway of the Sun” and it is located on the site of an ancient Sun Gate constructed in Moorish Lisbon and destroyed by the 1755 earthquake. This vantage point is an ideal spot for both sunrise and sunset - the view is so wide that you see the sun as it appears on the horizon as well as when it disappears.

There is a terrace coffee and cocktail bar on the balcony here, poised to take advantage of this breath taking location. It serves wines, cocktails, champagne and a small menu and features live music with a DJ on Fridays and Saturdays.

This viewpoint is also an ideal starting point for exploring the winding historic streets of Alfama.
