As Bifanas do Afonso

Restaurant | €-€€

Although its origin is unknown, bifana is one of the best known and most requested dishes in Portugal. Whether as a main dish or just as a snack, it leaves no one indifferent.

“As Bifanas do Afonso”, a short distance from the Elevador de Santa Justa, is a reference when it comes to bifanas. The thinly sliced pork is marinated in garlic, salt and white wine, and fried in margarine, olive oil and bay leaf. Warm homemade bread tops off this delicacy, making it impossible to eat just one.

The small size of this space means that many visitors order and eat on the nearby park benches. “As Bifanas do Afonso” is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and open the rest of the week between 7.30 am and 7.30 pm. The average price per person is 10€.
